Bees Put To Bed For The Winter

Bees Put To Bed For The Winter

So the season has come to an end and we have setup our hives for the winter.  A final mite treatment of oxalic acid was applied, and 2 large soft sugar fondant cakes have been added to ensure they have enough feed till spring.  We have also winterized the hives by adding foil covered bubble wrap to cut down on any unwanted drafts in the hive.

If your interested in learing more about how bees winter, here's a great article explainging how they survive.

Here's a couple pictures of the winterized hives which will now sit until the warmer temperatures of spring when we will see the bees emerge for their cleansing flights. (Pooping)
